In AYDIN’s Nazilli District, Retek Cellulose Recycling Industry and Trade Inc.’s Chairman of the Board and Mechanical Engineer Polat Güven produced a drying unit consisting of 8 cylinders, which was previously only imported from Italy and Ukraine at a cost of 12 million TL, with domestic resources for 4 million TL.
Güven, who designed the system himself, had the parts of the unit manufactured by craftsmen in industrial zones in Izmir, Denizli, and Nazilli. With about 6 months of work, Güven achieved significant savings and also avoided the additional expenses of foreign technical staff for assembly and maintenance if the unit had been imported.
Güven pointed out that if the machine had been imported, the engineering equipment would also have had to be brought from abroad during the assembly stage. He explained that thanks to the system, which cost approximately 4 million TL, the local companies that carried out the manufacturing labor were also introduced to a new technology. Güven also emphasized that within the scope of this project, they created employment for 15 people and said:
“We made an investment to increase the capacity and quality of the paper machine. The primary purpose of this investment is energy efficiency, meaning achieving savings in electricity and thermal energy consumption per ton of paper produced. Thanks to this system, energy consumption will be reduced. The project of this investment completely belongs to us. We had the manufacturing labor carried out by local companies. In this way, our money did not go abroad, and our local industry became familiar with a new technology. They also developed economically. We manufactured it for about one-third of the price we would have paid abroad.”
THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR CONGRATULATED
Kaymakam Mehmet Okur, who visited RETEK Inc., one of the 25 recycling factories in the country, congratulated Polat Güven for his work. District Governor Okur emphasized that businesses contributing to the national economy and supporting regional employment should be encouraged.
